It’s rather interesting if you think more in-depth about the concept of fear. Fear alone is something that we all have or have faced individually. Currently, we’re all experiencing some degree of fear, because without it, what else is driving us?
Think about it. We act upon fear. Whether it’s safety, security, phobias, concepts, etc. we always act to avoid or prevent what we fear the most. For me, what I’m scared of the most in this world is the infamous feeling of regret.
R e g r e t. It’s not a physical object. It’s not an outside force at all. What regret is, is an internal reaction you have within yourself, realizing that a decision was made that didn’t serve you in a self-satisfying way. Now, that’s just my definition of the word. To me, regret is ultimately something that you can never make sense or reasoning out of, which leads to severe disappointment.
But if I think about it, I acknowledge that my greatest fear is also a driving force in my life. I don’t ever want to experience the sensation of regret. So, I avoid it at all costs — just like any fear. I prevent fear. And I keep my fear in the back of my mind at all times — subconsciously.
I don’t want to experience regret. I don’t want to feel that suffering internally. So I intend to face each day doing everything I can with clear, confident decisions. And, if things don’t pan out the way that’s satisfying my being, I find the reasoning in those outcomes. In retrospect, if I ever have to defuse any flame of regret (or fear) creeping in, I will.
Think about it. What’s your greatest fear? Why does it scare you? But, how does it also serve you? Don’t have one? Why is that? Maybe you already made sense of your fears, and those fears already transformed into your driving force within your life daily.
I like to think, fears aren’t that bad after all. It’s what gives us a little more spark. A little more motivation. And a little more definition in our average lives. Next time you’re fearful of something, try using it as an ignition to move forward with your life. It’ll get you to where you want to go and ultimately, where you need to be.
